Portrait

Andrea's career path across support roles, teaching, and district administration spanning over 25 years in education highlighted a critical void in professional development for paraprofessionals. Noticing that these vital staff members frequently lacked access to specialized training, she established Achievement Through Action to empower every adult in the building. Her primary goal is to foster sustainable school-wide growth through inclusive training that converts pedagogical concepts into practical classroom results. By focusing on the unique requirements of paraeducators and their peer groups, Andrea delivers evidence-based methods for immediate use. Educational leaders rely on her expertise because she truly understands the intersection of administrative strategy and daily classroom life. She operates on the conviction that prioritizing the growth of all personnel leads directly to improved student performance. This purpose-led strategy redefines instructional groups as influential collaborators, creating an environment where every staff member can improve student success through deliberate steps. By strengthening the partnership between teachers and support staff, she helps schools create a cohesive learning atmosphere where students at every grade level thrive because their educators are fully equipped.

Back to School Professional Learning Topics

Andrea Zuniga, M.ED.

Roles & Responsibilities

Participants will be able to clearly identify the core responsibilities of a paraeducator and explain how these duties support equitable access to learning. They will demonstrate understanding of instructional, behavioral, and collaborative expectations by analyzing real classroom scenarios and outlining how paraeducators partner with teachers to promote student independence, engagement, and progress.

Equitable Opportunities to Learn

Participants will deepen their understanding of what equitable access to learning truly requires and will be able to identify specific practices that remove barriers, increase student engagement, and support diverse learners. By the end of the session, participants will analyze classroom scenarios to determine where inequities may exist and articulate actionable strategies—such as proactive supports, flexible pathways, and culturally responsive approaches—that ensure every student can participate meaningfully, progress toward learning goals, and experience success.

Data Collection & Documentation

Participants will build a clear understanding of effective data collection practices and learn how to document student progress in ways that are accurate, consistent, and instructionally meaningful. By the end of the session, participants will be able to identify what data to collect, select appropriate collection tools, and apply documentation strategies that support communication with teachers, inform instructional decisions, and demonstrate student growth over time.

Scaffolding for Success: How to Gradually Release Responsibility to Students

Participants will develop a clear understanding of the gradual release of responsibility model and learn how intentional scaffolding supports students in becoming confident, independent learners. By the end of the session, participants will be able to identify when and how to provide support, adjust scaffolds based on student need, and implement strategies that shift ownership from adult-led guidance to student-driven learning. They will analyze classroom examples and outline practical moves that promote autonomy, problem‑solving, and self‑management.
